Abstract

Warm rolling of plates of AISI type 316 stainless steel is reported. Uniaxial compressive flow stress - temperature curves at different strains were generated to account for the thickness strain variations seen in rolling. A new method of calculating the strain rate in rolling is shown to be as accurate as an already established procedure. It is shown that the formulae normally used to predict torque and power in hot rolling could be used in the warm rolling range ( < 900 deg C)also.
