Abstract

Hexadecyl pyrene (HDP) is an ampphiphilic molecule and excellent Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) films of HDP with stearic acid can be formed on water subphase which can be transferred on to quartz substrates. Absorption and emission of these films have been studied and compared with that in solutions. The results indicate the formation of aggregates. 9,10 HDP donor. The experiental results suggest that the efficiency of the energy transfer from donor to acceptor layer decreases with the quadratic power of the distance seperating them. This quadratic power dependence suggests that the donor excitations are delocalised.
