Abstract
The extension of solid solution in rapidly solidofied binary alloys has been discussed. It is shown that a thermodynamic approach provides a powerful tool to understand such extension. Two distinctly different situation and non-equilibrium trapping situation have been discussed including the inherent limitations. These two situation possess in extending the solid solution.
