Abstract

The work on methods for determining the homoeologous relationship between wheat and rye chromosomes has been reviewed. The results obtained for rye chromosomes belonging to different homoeologous groups have been discussed. It is proposed that chromosome 3R of Lee et al. (1969) should be designated as 1R/3R. It is pointed out that homoeology of all seven rye chromosomes may not be known in the future also, due to translocations. It is, therefore, suggested that Secale montanum should be used instead of S. cereale. Future lines of work have been suggested.
