Abstract

D-Glycals readily undergo cyclization with aryl amines in the presence of CeCl3·7H2O-NaI under mild and neutral conditions to afford a novel sugar derived tetrahydroquinoline derivatives in good yields with high stereoselectivity. The stereochemistry of the products was assigned by using various NMR studies.
