Abstract

X-ray absorption near edge structure (XANES) has provided reliable information on the valence of Eu in EuPd3Six (0 ≤ x ≤ 0.25) formed by alloying EuPd3 with silicon. It is found that in the limiting single phase alloy, EuPd3Si0.25 Eu ion is in the mixed valent state (Eu2+ and Eu3+). The estimated average of Eu ion in EuPd3Si0.25 is 2.85 ± 0.05 and it is temperature independent.
