Abstract

Solid-phase axial dispersion has been measured in 0.15-m-i.d. solid-liquid fluidized beds. The solid phase was ion-exchange resin in the size range of 300-1000 μ m. The particle size distribution was measured at 34 axial locations ranging from 0.03 to 1.10 m from the bottom. A model describing the particle classification enabled the estimation of axial dispersion coefficient. Based on the experimental results, a correlation has been developed that has been found to be applicable to all the reported data in the published literature over a wide range of Reynolds number.
