Abstract
Besides β-sitosterol and stigmasterol, the major steroids of sugar cane, the following minor triterpenoids and steroids have been isolated and characterized from Indian sugar cane: taraxerol, β-amyrin, betulin, taraxerol methyl ether (sawamilletin), β-amyrin methyl ether (isosawamilletin), fernenol methyl ether (arundoin), isoarborinol methyl ether (cylindrin), 24-methyl- and 24-ethyl-lophenol, stigmast-5-en-3β, 7α-diol (ikshusterol), stigmast-5-en-3β, 7β-diol (epi-ikshusterol) and stigmastan-3β,5α,6β-triol.
