Abstract

We examine the signature of classical motion on quantum tunnelling in a two-degree-of-freedom conservative Hamiltonian system. The tunnelling probability has been related quantitatively to the Fourier spectrum of the classical trajectory. We have shown that a finite nonzero coupling between the tunnelling system and another single subsystem enhances the tunnelling probability compared to the uncoupled tunnelling system. This is contrary to the situation encountered in macroscopic quantum tunnelling.
