Abstract

Indoles undergo smooth conjugate addition with α,β-unsaturated ketones in the presence of 10 mol% copper(II) triflate immobilized in air and moisture stable [bmim]BF4 ionic liquid under mild conditions to afford the corresponding conjugate addition products in high to quantitative yields. The recovery of Cu(OTf)2 is facilitated by the ionic liquid. The recovered catalyst was reused four to five times with consistent activity.
