Abstract

The kinetics of the nonenzymic hydrolysis of adenosine-5'-triphosphate[ATP] in aqueous solutions has been studied at 56·0° and 64·0°, over a broad pH range 3·0-9·0, and μ=0·1 (KNO3). The reaction was followed by measuring calorimetrically the inorganic orthosphosphate liberated according to the overall reaction ATP + H2O → ADP + Pi. pH-rate profiles have been analysed and the overall rate constants have been resolved into individual rate constants relating to the various ionic species in solution. Thermodynamic activation parameters, ΔH, ΔS, and ΔF, for the specific rate constants of the various ionic species are reported.
