Abstract

Interaction of K[Ru(EDTAH)Cl] (1) with CO at very low pH (1.0) produces the protonated species [Ru(EDTAH)(CO)(H2O)] (2). Interaction of 1 with CO results in the formation of K[Ru(EDTA)(CO)H2O] (3) and K3[(Ru(EDTA))2-μ-CO-μ-OH] (4). Complexes 2 and 3 have a μeff of 1.90 and 1.87 B.M., respectively, while complex 4 exhibits a μeff of 3.97 B.M. The EPR of complex 4 shows a resonance at half field position at 4.60 as a result of RuIII-RuIII coupling.
