Abstract
The generalised Gruneisen parameters of elastic waves propagating in different directions in calcite are calculated from the measured second and third order elastic constants. There are a large number of quasi transverse elastic waves having negative values of γ ' and γ". The relevance of these calculations to the thermal expansion of calcite is discussed.
