Abstract

Micronutrient deficiencies are responsible for considerable morbidity and mortality. The roles of these nutrients in growth, development and immunity is now well recognized. The worst affected are the young, the women, the elderly and the underprivileged. Deficiencies of vitamin A, iron and iodine are pervasive worldwide. Technology and production are not the limiting factors in addressing micronutrient deficiencies. To be more effective, prevention progress can be linked to the Expanded Program on Immunization.
