Abstract

If one applies the standard definition of time invariance to systems whose input and output spaces consist of functions defined over an interval of the form [T0, ∞) where T0is finite, then a time-invariant system is necessarily causal in a weak sense. A definition of time invariance is given that is independent of causality, even when the underlying time interval is bounded on the left. Some consequences of this definition are discussed.
