Abstract

In this paper we study the spin correlations in a two-dimensional electron gas interacting via a Coulomb-type potential in the self-consistent scheme of Singwi et al. The spin-antisymmetric pair-correlation function is combined with the spin-symmetric pair-correlation function to determine the spin-dependent pair-correlation function. We also calculate the spin-dependent effective potentials from the knowledge of spin-symmetric and spin-antisymmetric effective potentials. It is found that Veff↑↓ is always less than Veff↑↓. Results are compared with the Monte Carlo simulation data, wherever available. We conclude that the electron correlation effects are somewhat more pronounced in two dimensions than in three dimensions.
