Abstract

The perturbation in the recoil proton dose in soft tissue under fast neutron irradiation due to the presence of bone, has been calculated for the particular case of a slab of tissue bounded by two parallel slabs of bone. The calculations have taken into account the actual angular distribution and angle-energy relationships of the recoil protons. Significant differences between the present calculations and those made earlier by Lawson (Abstr A15837(1968)) on more simplified assumptions have been observed. The calculations have been extended to the case of cylindrical tissue cavities in bone.
