Abstract

From a self-consistent independent-particle model of the nucleus, isobaric spin mixing in the ground state of nuclei is calculated for the mass region 4 < A < 208. From this model, allowed Fermi β-decay matrix elements are calculated. The Coulomb energy differences calculated from our model turn out to be about the same as those obtained from the (p, n) reaction data. A relation of the direct Coulomb energy of a nucleus to its elastic form factor is pointed out.
