Abstract

The effects of sucrose irradiated with 0·5 to 3 Mrad of γ-rays and stored for different durations were studied in Tropaeolum majus, using the germination and tube growth of pollen as indices. The extent of the inhibitory effect increased with dosage and was either enhanced or reduced with storage depending upon the initial dose. It appears possible that the radiolytic products of sucrose formed at different dosages may be qualitatively different.
