Abstract

A new type of temperature probe employing a novel feedback technique and making use of the temperature-dependent property of a commercial silicon 2N 2222 n-p-n transistor has been developed and successfully flight tested in meteorological balloons. The feedback technique employed not only overcomes the problems of DC drift but also enables handling of large signals. Its ability to measure absolute temperature and fast response ( approximately 0.3 s) make this probe suitable for atmospheric studies and meteorological applications.
