Abstract

A simple and accurate numerical scheme is used for the determination of critical loads of tapered cantilever columns subjected to a tip-concentrated follower force with and without taking damping into account. Three types of variation of taper are considered and the critical loads are presented for various values of taper parameter. It is noted that small damping has a destabilizing effect.
