## Abstract

Let p (x) be an essentially positive function defined in the interval 0 ≤ x ≤ π. We consider the non-linear partial differential equation ∂/∂x{p(x)∂u/∂x}-∂^{2}u/∂t^{2}=u^{2} for the boundary conditions u (x, t)=0, for x=0 and x=0 and x=π, u(x,0)=f_{1}(x); ∂u/∂t(x,0)=f_{2}(x).
