Abstract

Positron lifetime and angular correlation peak parameter experiments are utilized to study the precipitation process during post-quench Isochronal annealing of Al-1 at% Ag. In the as-quenched alloy positrons annihilate from Guinier-Preston zones and quenched-in vacancies. Vacancy migration is complete by 100°C, the Ag concentration in GP zones increases from 30 to 70 at%. Beyond 200°C GP zones dissolve and the precipitates of the equilibrium Ag2Al phase form.
