Abstract

Aqueous solutions of Na salts of thioglycolic and 3-mercaptopropionic acids suitably modified with added S0 and/or Se0 act as good redox systems and stabilize CdX (X = S, Se) electrodes against photocorrosion. Light-electricity energy conversion efficiency of 3.9% has been found with PECs containing CdSe single crystal anodes. Pt cathodes and the new electrolyte system. Curren-voltage characteristics capacitance and stability studies for various electrolyte combinations have been presented and discussed in relation to the available data on polychalcogenide (X2−/X2−n) electrolyte system.
