Abstract

In the system Sm1-xLuxBa2Cu3O7, single phase orthorhombic perovskite is formed for x≤0.5 above which a multiphase material is obtained with the predominant 123 phase. All the phases except when x=1.0, exhibit superconductivity with Tc,zero in the range 87-90 K. Pure LaBa2Cu3O7 is tetragonal and shows a Tc,zero of 73 K. Orthorhombic distortion and a Tc,zero of 79 K can be induced for x=0.1 in La1-xLuxBa2Cu3O7. In the latter system, single phase materials are obtained for x≤0.5. However, all phases exhibit superconductivity with Tc, zero=90±2 K for 0.2≤x≤0.8.
