Abstract

The dielectric properties, x-ray structure, and electrical conductivity of samples of BaTiO3 doped with various concentrations of MnO2 have been studied. On progressive addition of MnO2, the nonferroelectric hexagonal phase of BaTiO3 is precipitated. The complete conversion of cubic BaTiO3 into its hexagonal polymorph is obtained at 100 mol. %concentration. The catalytic action of MnO2 in promoting phase transition and grain growth of dimorphic BaTiO3 is explained on the basis of progressive increase in oxygen vacancies.
