Abstract

The X-ray K-emission spectra of niobium in niobium metal and in several of its compounds have been investigated using 400-mm bent crystal (mica) spectrograph. The shift ΔE in the position of the x-ray diagram lines such as Kα1.2 and Kβ1.2 can be expressed by the equation ΔE = i[B5s + (m - 1)B4d] where i and m are the overall ionicity and valence of niobium in a compound, B5s and B4d are the constants which are different for Kα1, Kα2, Kβ1, and Kβ2 lines. For Kα2,B5s is positive whereas B4d is negative, while for Kβ2 the reverse is true.
