Abstract

Tri-p-tolyltin(IV) carboxylate complexes of the type (p-CH3). (C6H4)3SnOCOR where R = Methyl, mono-, di- and trichloromethyl, ethyl, n-propyl, n-butyl, n-pentyl or phenyl, have been prepared by the reaction of tri-p-tolyltin chloride with the respective sodium carboxylate in 1 : 1 molar ratio in acetone. The IR, 1H NMR and mossbauer studies of acetate, propionate, butyrate, pentanoate, hexanoate and benzoate derivatives of tri-p-tolyltin(IV) indicate a penta coordinated polymeric structure in these complexes, whereas IR and mossbauer studies of trichloroacetate derivative of tri-p-tolyltin(IV) indicate monodentate behaviour of the carboxylate group.
