Abstract

A study has been made of the genus Ciliochorella Sydow, represented by the two species, C. mangiferae Sydow (Type) and C. bambusarum Shanor. Examination of the type specimen of the former showed that the conidia are phragmo-spores with one apical, one basal and one lateral appendage and not amerospores with two apical and a persistent tail-like conidiophore as described by Sydow. The generic description of Ciliochorella is accordingly emended. It is also shown that C. mangiferae, as re-described here, is an earlier valid name for Plagionema indica Subram. & Ramakr. Ciliochorella bambusarum is shown to be not congeneric with C. mangiferae and is made the type of a new genus of the Sphaerop-sidales, Shanoria.
