Abstract

M factor is a protein which stimulates DNA transcription by complete RNA polymerase under a variety of conditions. M factor probably exerts its effect through association with RNA polymerase to provide for an increased frequency of initiation of RNA chains. M factor might function at the binding or initiation stages of the RNA polymerase reaction; the latter possibility seems to us the most likely.
