Abstract

Dynamic performance of orifice compensated externally pressurized gas bearings is considered. By adopting the finite element method and modifying the perturbation formulation of Lund, stiffness coefficients, damping coefficients, critical mass and threshold speed for various bearing eccentricities and design parameters have been computed.
