Abstract

This paper presents dynamic performance characteristics of plain gas journal bearings. The perturbation formulation suggested by Lund has been modified to obtain stiffness and damping properties. Since rotor bearing axes are never perfectly parallel, the effect of skew has also been considered. Stability studies have been carried out for selected compressibility parameters.
