Abstract

A strain of Pseudomonas sp. ATCC 29354, isolated from parathionamended flooded soil, converted p-nitrophenol to 4-nitrocatechol which persisted in pure culture. In unsterilized flooded soil, not previously treated with parathion, 4-nitrocatechol was further metabolized by other microogranisms.
