Abstract

p-Nitrophenol was mineralized more rapidly in the rice rhizosphere than in unplanted soil under non-flooded and flooded conditions. The effect of the rhizosphere on the mineralization of p-nitrophenol was more pronounced under flooded conditions and was influenced by the pre-exposure of the rice rhizosphere to p-nitrophenol. The rice rhizosphere pretreated with p-nitrophenol generated more 14CO2 from 14C-p-nitrophenol than that without pretreatment.
