Abstract

New series of hydrotalcite (HT)-like anionic clays containing Zr4+ in the brucite-like layer have been synthesised by a simple coprecipitation method at constant pH. The incorporation of Zr in the layer have been confirmed by various analytical methods such as powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), chemical analysis, UV-Vis diffusereflectance (UV-Vis DR) spectra and thermogravimetric analysis. These Zr containing HT-like materials show very interesting properties as catalyst in the liquid phase hydroxylation of phenol to selectively catechol.
