Abstract
Attempted dilithiation of benzothiophene with lithium diisopropylamide (LDA) gave lithium benzothiophenetellurolate. Reaction of the tellurolate with 1,2-di-bromoethane gave di-2-benzo[b]thienyl ditelluride, the crystal structure of which was determined by an X-ray diffraction study. The crystal consists of discrete molecules linked by weak intermolecular Te···Te and Te···S interactions, with no secondary intramolecular Te···S bonding.
