Abstract

The results of magnetic susceptibility, resistivity and specific heat measurements on Ce1−xLaxPd2Si2 show that the magnetic ordering temperature (TN) decreases with increasing x similar to the behaviour known for the corresponding Y substituted system. This suggests that the compound CePd2Si2 lies at the peak in Doniach's magnetic phase diagram. This result places the interpretations of recent quasi-elastic linewidth measurements in the competition between magnetism and Kondo effect on a firm footing. Linear variation of TN with x also suggests that the direct 4f-4f interaction plays an insignificant role in the breakdown of the de Gennes scaling.
