Abstract

The influence of lattice expansion caused by the substitution of Ni for Co and La for Ce on the electrical resistivity, heat-capacity and magnetic susceptibility behavior (above 1.5 K) of the new mixed-valent compound, Ce2CoSi3, are investigated by studying the ternary series Ce2−xLaxCoSi3 and Ce2Co1−yNiySi3. On the basis of data, it is inferred that the electronic structure variations play a dominant role as compared to the chemical pressure effects in determining the strength of the Kondo effect in these alloys. Some of the alloys in these solid solutions may provide an opportunity to understand non-Fermi-liquid phenomena.
