Abstract

Thirring-Wess and Schwinger models generalized to U(n) symmetry are explicitly solved by using the operator solution to the U(n) symmetric Thirring model. The gauge-invariant SU(n) current densities vanish identically, indicating the absence of colored physical states. The fermion screening mechanism occurs entirely due to the masslessness of the Abelian vector-boson field. There is no dynamical generation of mass for the non-Abelian vector bosons, which have to have zero mass for the solvability of the model.
