Abstract

The separation of close-boiling m-xylene and p-xylene via selective alkylation and subsequent dealkylation or transalkylation was studied. The alkylation was carried out with isobutylene or diisobutylene with concentrated sulfuric acid as a catalyst at -10 to 20°C, and Filtrol-24 acid clay at 80 to 130°C, respectively.
