Abstract

Liquid-phase and solid-phase mixing times were measured in a 0.4-m-i.d. sectionalized bubble column employing radial baffles. The superficial gas velocity, average particle size, and solid loading were varied over a wide range. Radioactive 99mTc (technetium-99 metastable, as an aqueous solution of sodium pertechnate) and 198Au (as chloroauric acid) were used as the liquid- and solid-phase tracers, respectively. The results obtained on the optimum dimensions and configuration of radial baffles closely conform to those suggested in the literature.
