Abstract

The kinetics of absorption of isobutylene in sub-azeotropic aqueous ethanol, to give ethyl-tert-butyl ether (ETBE) and tert-butanol (TBA), was investigated in a 0.075 m i.d magnetically stirred autoclave in the temperature range of 303 to 333 κ and a pressure of 0.345 MPa. The kinetics of absorption of isobutylene in mixed close boiling alcohols (ethanol + iso-propanol; iso-propanol + tert-butanol) was also investigated in the temperature range of 303 to 343 κ and a pressure of 0.345 MPa. It is possible to separate alcohols in view of large differences in rates of reaction.
