Abstract

The method of liquid extraction accompanied by fast pseudo-first-order reaction has been used for studying the kinetics of fast alkaline hydrolysis of esters which are sparingly soluble in water. This method, under certain circumstances, could cover a very wide range of second-order rate constants (0.2-10,000 l./g mole sec). The method could also be adopted for studying the alkaline hydrolysis of esters which are solids at ambient conditions and are sparingly soluble in water.
