Abstract

The result of DC magnetization (M) measurements on the compounds RCu2Si2 (R=Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er and Tm) in the paramagnetic state up to 55 kOe are reported. In all cases, except that of Gd alloy, M is found to be a non-linear function of magnetic field tending to saturate at higher fields over a wide temperature range in the paramagnetic state. This magnetization behaviour is found to be essentially a single-ionic effect, presumably arising from strong 4f quadrupolar effects.
