Abstract

The possibility of unifying SU (3)×SU(2)×U(1) in a larger group in N=2 supersymmetric theory is discussed. If the latter remains unbroken down to low energy (~ TeV), the perturbation theory fails around 1010 GeV and the hope for unification is lost. This need not happen if quarks and leptons are composite with a compositeness scale less than 1010 GeV. Realistic preon models which may allow unification are very few. Among them are examples accommodating respectively one and three generations.
