Abstract

Using the 'node-link-blob' model of the incipient infinite cluster, the authors estimate the difference between the breakdown exponents in the lattice and continuum percolation models for both mechanical and electrical breakdown of random systems. In all cases, the exponents for the continuum systems are significantly larger than the corresponding exponents in discrete lattice systems.
