Abstract

Measurements of thermoosmotic pressure differences, ΔP, and heats of transport, [Q]°, for various values of the temperature difference, ΔT, have been made for argon gas and binary gaseous mixtures of argon and ethylene. Thermoosmotic concentration differences, ΔC1, for the mixtures have also been measured. The effective thermal diffusion factor is found to be much greater than the thermal diffusion factor for a non-membrane system. The individual heats of transport of the component gases in the binary gaseous mixture have also been estimated at different temperatures.
