Abstract

We show that oscillations in the chattering region, in plots of final rotational action (Jf), collision time (τ) and scattering angle (χ) as functions of initial rotational phase (θi) of the diatom in planar Li-FH rigid rotor collisions for fixed initial impact parameter (b) values, exhibit a behavior that is characteristic of fractals with an average dimension 1.5. We also show that the qualitative behavior persists as a function of b for fixed values of θi.
