Abstract

In crystallization or precipitation, the activation energy for nucleation of particles, En, for growth of particles, Eg, and for the total process, Ec, can all be determined independently by experiment. Formulae relating these three values are developed. Cases of linear and parabolic growth are included for different nucleation rates and morphologies. The formulae are tested experimentally on amorphous alloys (metallic glasses) based on Fe-Ni. The agreement between the theory and the experiments is very satisfactory.
