Abstract

The energy corresponding to the exciplex emission of substituted N,N-dimethylanilines with authracene decreases with increase in the electron donating power of the substituent. The solvent dependence of the exciplex emission band can be explained in terms of the variation in the dimensions of the complex. N,N-Dimethyl-p-nitrosoaniline (DMNA)-aromatic systems exhibit fluorescence similar to DMNA possibly because of the formation of a loose exciplex of the type (DMNA-aromatic).
